Son of a jazz trumpeter, Rennie grew up listening to Charlie Parker and playing various funk bands in Kent on tenor saxophone.
In 1989 he formed Rhythm Section with Dj Ellis D, Nick Scott and Richie T. As well as playing at every Rave worth mentioning, Rhythm Section released a the huge ‘Comin’ On Strong’ EP which stayed in the Dance Charts for 18 months and sold over 20,000 copies.
In 1993 Rennie set-up TCR Recordings to release his own material. Early track ‘A Place Called Acid’ was an underground anthem which got him internationally noticed as a producer/dj.
1996 he started a night called ‘Friction’ with Ian Williams, Tayo and Adam Freeland. They described their music policy as ‘Nu School Breaks’ and so gave name to a movement that became established Worlwidie
Around the same time he formed ‘The Philadelphia Bluntz’ with Will South. Their trip-hopesque album ‘Blunted At Birth’ on China got them poached by EMI/Chrysalis where they went on to release several singles and an album.
Rennie’s award-winning career (Best Breaks single ‘2 Freaks’/Best Remix ‘Emit’ amongst others) in Dance has so far taken him around the World djing many times over. As well as releasing over 100 singles on his TCR imprint he has remixed a who’s who of electronic music…..Afrika Bambaata, Arthur Baker, Ferry Corsten, Timo Maas, Simple Minds, Filter, BT, Easy Rollers, Elite Force, Meat Katie, Uberzone, Braund Reynolds and many more.
Renie Pilgrem & The TCR Allstars is his Live band incarnation. They have played Glastonbury, The Glade Festival, Fabric as well as Festivals in Slovenia and Italy.. IDJ included them in the Top Twenty Electronic bands around alongside The Chemical Brothers and Basement Jaxx.
IN 2009 Rennie released the first in a new series championing his re-discovered love of the funk. Called Street Legal. These double EP’s highlight a range of flavours from banging club to more esoteric material. The latest release Street Legal 2, achieved a unique accolade of containing iDj’s House Tune Of The Month (Chocolate) and Breaks ‘Moneyshot’ (whole EP) in the same issue.. Also on a funk tip Rennie is one half of (iDj’s ‘Ones To Watch’) Bush Doctors with Jem Stone from Fingerlickin their brand of tribal funked-up grooves is proving to be a hit with djs from right across the spectrum
Rennie has just finished remixing Aquasky vs Ragga Twins ‘Legends’ for Passenger, Caper ‘Somethin Else’ for Distinctive and The CB’s ‘The Finding (as Bush Doctors) for Jam City. He is currently compsing his first Film Score for Brit Indy film ‘The Fix’ and working on Street Legal 3 due for release in Jan 2011.
